Project F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S.

(Forgetting Babies Utilize Learning Opportunities Unbutton Success)

Texas has the 2nd highest teen birth rate and the HIGHEST rate of repeat births to teen mothers in the Nation. Houston, Texas has the HIGHEST number of births to teens, ages 19 and under, of 255 counties in the State of Texas.  The fallout from teen pregnancy is predictably troubling and carries substantial social and economic costs through immediate and long-term impacts on teen parents and their children.

Based on this evidence, AFC’s Project F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S. targets African-American and Hispanic teens aged 13-18 residing in high poverty, minority-populated urban, high risk schools and communities. This target group are at-risk (e.g. social, behavioral, economic, educational, repeat pregnancies) of teen pregnancies. The goal of the AFC-F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S. program is to:

v  Increase the number of youth who delay or discontinue sexual activity

v  Reduce the frequency of sexual activity

v  Reduce the number of sexual partners

v  Reduce the frequency of unprotected sex

v  Increase contraception/condom use to include knowledge on how to access reproductive and family planning services

v  Reduce incidences of drug/alcohol use and other risk behaviors

Over the last 2 years, AFC has provided these services to more than 600 pregnant and parenting teens, and those who are at high-risk of becoming pregnant and teen parents.
