Our MissionAFC's mission is to inspire excellence and promote leadership to youth through one-on-one and group mentoring, music and the performing arts. We seek to provoke positive change and enrichment in our communities

Project PASSION

It is the philosophy of Ambassadors for Christ Youth Ministries that programs in music and performing arts are an important part of positive growth and development for youth. These activities not only provide a place to experience joy through singing, dancing, writing, speaking, and acting, but they also provide a nurturing environment where youth may excel and succeed through group creative endeavors. The goal of the AFC PASSION project is to ensure that a safe environment is created where all students, regardless of initial ability, can participate on a meaningful level and be accepted as a welcome addition to the AFC youth community.

 Program Curriculum

 Vocal and Instrumental Music

Students will actively learn the basic fundamentals of music history and will learn to distinguish between the different styles and genres of music. After these fundamentals are set, students will be taught to identify all key and time signatures and work to enhance their skills through rehearsals in part singing and playing. In a band or choir group, students will learn to contribute their talents effectively through the use of proper vocal, deep breathing and rhythm exercises. Students will be required to use good posture and will learn to blend by listening closely to the other performers in the group. A great deal of class time will be devoted to rehearsals that focus on music techniques and raising performance standards, which will be demonstrated in student performances, both on and off campus, throughout the school year. Top performing singers and musicians will be given opportunities in individual and small group activities such as solo and ensemble performances.

 Dance and Drama

Students will learn the basics and fundamentals of acting and expressive movement through scene study, character creation, parables, skits, drill and expressive movement, and pantomiming. The students will be stimulated and challenged to be effective members of a creative dance and drama ensemble by learning to confidently give voice to original ideas, as well as respectfully embrace the ideas of others to find creative solutions.

 Step and Drill Team

Students are taught the basics and fundamentals of military style drill commands and expressive step movement. The students are challenged to positively express themselves and reflect on their own life experiences through call and response drills and creative dance steps. The drill and step classes are designed so that the students can develop the necessary skills to confidently give voice to original ideas, as well as respectfully embrace the ideas of others in a team setting. As a result, participants tend to develop a sense of willingness and personal motivation to listen and respond positively.

Creative Writing and Poetic Speaking

Students will learn to express themselves and reflect on their own life experiences through poetry and writing. Students will be given the opportunity to discover the liberating power and excitement of writing and speaking through a variety of techniques such as journaling, stream of consciousness writing, free verse, and spoken word poetry. Larger classes may be divided into smaller groups in order to offer a more fun and interactive environment and to provide more individual attention to the students.
